Yle - create amazing experience
Yle Kielikoulu Yle Språkskolan is closing
Is this the end?
Yle has decided to close the service Yle Kielikoulu Yle Språkskolan on May 14th 2025. It is well known that Yle is under pressure as their funding is being cut by 15-20%. The question is why making their programs accessible to immigrants and the public service of helping newcomers to improve the Finnish and Swedish languages is not prioritised in the process of cutting costs?
Statistics Finland shows that immigrants to Finland arriving in the last five years contribute financially via the Yle-vero fee approximately 100 times more than the cost of Yle Kielikoulu used by more than hundred thousand.

OUR contribution
Since 2020, Finland’s public service broadcaster Yle has successfully used the LingvisPlay format in order to turn its program content into dynamic language learning materials. The achievements of the service resulted in Yle extending the partnership after the initial two years.
By providing the LingvisPlay format to Yle’s extensive television content, Lingvis Foundation has allowed more than a hundred thousand migrants to Finland to improve their Finnish or Swedish language skills completely free of charge.
How it began
Yle was introduced to the LingvisPlay format as a result of the success of the SVT Språkplay service launched by Sweden’s public service broadcaster SVT Sveriges Television, winning the EBU Prix Europa in 2018 for best online project.
UNESCO - Institute for Lifelong Learning
In 2021, UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning conducted a global landscape review of digital solutions for innovative and effective ways to support the literacy and learning opportunities for refugees, migrants and internally displaced persons. Published in 2022, the compilation of case studies showed that the LingvisPlay format had reached the highest number of users of all solutions reviewed.
